When AI Mixes You Up With a Company of the Same Name

When AI Mixes You Up With a Company of the Same Name

We asked AI about two of our clients. The answers were about a company in Denmark and a Greek food company.

Two Clients, Two Twins

On 5 October 2026 we asked Perplexity about two of our clients.

HeliosAUTO, a car upgrade studio in Plovdiv: the most-cited sources in the answer were heliosauto.dk and heliosauto.no, two different companies with the same name, in Denmark and Norway.

Jotis, a perfume and cosmetics shop in Pirdop: across three questions, Perplexity cited jotis.gr, a Greek food company, 11 times, and jotis.bg not once.

Both were checks on a single day. But they show something that holds for many small businesses: if your name exists anywhere else in the world, AI may describe the other company when someone asks about you.

Why It Happens

AI assistants do not “know” who you are. They gather what they find under that name and pick whatever looks most certain. If the other company is described more clearly than yours, it wins.

Nobody did anything wrong. You simply have a name twin, and AI cannot tell which one you mean unless your site says so clearly.

Check in 30 Seconds

Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini about your business by name, then by name and city. For example: “What is [your name]?” and “What does [your name] offer in [your city]?”

If the answer describes another company, a site in another country, or services you do not offer, you have the same problem. Note the date of the check, because answers change from day to day.

What Helps

  1. Your name, city, address and what you sell, written as text on the homepage. Not only in the logo or an image.
  2. Structured data that tells machines the same thing: the type of business, address, phone and opening hours.
  3. The same name everywhere: your site, Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles. In the Google profile, the address field should hold an address, not a link to a map.
  4. Let the AI crawlers in. Check that robots.txt and your host’s firewall do not refuse the ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude crawlers. If they cannot read your site, they will rely on everything else.

The new HeliosAUTO site: the name, the services and the Plovdiv base are clear from the first screen

What We Did for Both

The new HeliosAUTO and Jotis sites now say clearly who they are: name, city, address and what they sell, on the page and in structured data, and the AI crawlers are allowed to read them. The details are in the HeliosAUTO and Jotis case studies.

We are not announcing a result yet. In November we will ask the same questions again and publish what changed, whatever it is.
